Typing Speed Test
Type the sentence as fast and clean as you can. The timer starts on your first keystroke.
What is a typing speed test?
A typing speed test measures how fast and accurately you can type, reported in words per minute (WPM). By convention, a "word" is five characters, so WPM is your correctly typed characters divided by five, per minute. This test counts only correct characters, which means accuracy matters as much as raw speed โ hammering keys with lots of mistakes will not inflate your score, the way it does on tests that count every keystroke.
What is a good typing speed?
The average typist runs about 40 WPM. Around 60 WPM is fast, professionals often sit at 65-75, and the fastest typists push well past 100. Accuracy above 95% is the mark of a clean typist โ speed without accuracy is not really faster, because fixing mistakes costs time.
- Under 30 WPM - hunt-and-peck; touch typing will roughly double this.
- 30-45 WPM - around the average.
- 45-65 WPM - fast; comfortable for most work.
- 65-90 WPM - professional speed.
- 90+ WPM - expert territory.
Tips to type faster
- Learn touch typing: keep your fingers on the home row (ASDF - JKL;) and do not look down. This is the single biggest gain.
- Prioritize accuracy over speed. Consistent, clean typing beats fast bursts full of corrections.
- Look one or two words ahead of where your fingers are, so your hands always know what is next.
- Practice a little every day. Typing speed is muscle memory, and it builds steadily with short regular sessions.
How this test works
A sentence appears; start typing it. The timer begins on your first keystroke, so no reaction lag counts against you, and correct characters turn green while mistakes are flagged. When you finish the sentence we show your net WPM and accuracy. Your best and daily streak are saved in your browser only, with no sign-up and nothing sent to a server.
Test your other speed and reflexes: the reaction time test, the click speed test, ornumber memory.
FAQ
What is a good typing speed?
The average is about 40 WPM. Around 60 WPM is fast, professionals typically type 65-75 WPM, and expert typists exceed 90-100 WPM. Accuracy above 95% matters as much as raw speed.
How is WPM calculated?
A word is standardized as five characters, so WPM is your correctly typed characters divided by five, per minute. This test counts only correct characters, so mistakes lower your score rather than padding it.
How can I type faster?
Learn touch typing โ keep your fingers on the home row and stop looking at the keyboard. That alone roughly doubles most people's speed. After that, prioritize accuracy and practice in short daily sessions to build muscle memory.
What is the difference between WPM and CPM?
CPM is characters per minute; WPM is CPM divided by five. Some tests also separate gross speed (every keystroke) from net speed (correct keystrokes only). This test reports net WPM, which reflects usable typing speed.
Is my score saved or shared online?
No. Your best WPM and streak live only in your browser via localStorage. There is no account, and sharing only happens if you tap the share button yourself.
